Background and Description

I didn't set out to write a book. I set out to clean my office. That was last year's New Year's resolution. It all started because of the IRS, who want to know how much inventory a writer has at the end of the year. Once I started rummaging around my bookshelves, I got the idea to clean every book in my office, and in doing so I wrote Dog Eared: A Year's Romp Through the Self-Publishing World.

Dog Eared explores several themes in my writing life, like: Why my high school girlfriend dumped me after she gave me a copy of Herman Hesse's Narcissus and Goldmund? Why I have all the writer's destiny marks except one? Why I played trivia with bikers in a Daytona Beach bar (while munching on a burger topped with hemp seeds)? And why Exercise Rule #39 doesn't alway work for me?

Reviews

By the time I had read ten pages, I knew I wanted to finish the book. By the time I had read fifty pages, I knew I couldn't put it down. —William B. Bein, Award-winning Business Writer, Consultant, and Chicago-based Entrepreneur

In this charming, unorthodox, and personable memoir, W. Nikola-Lisa uses the seemingly mundane task of cleaning out his office as a clever frame for reflections upon everything from his love of Robin Hood to the self-publishing process, taking readers on an enjoyable journey that every book lover will relate to—and every author, indie or otherwise, will learn a thing or two from. —Brooke Warner, Author of Green-Light Your Book

A quirky, informative, and highly absorbing journey into the world of self-publishing, told by a master storyteller. If A. J. Fikry were to self-publish a book about self-publishing, this would be it. —Holly Brady, Publishing Strategist and Former Director of Stanford Publishing Course
